Colin Scobie has a keen interest in the environment, following from his formative years in the footsteps of his uncle who lobbied to protect Fiordland National Park in New Zealand – now listed as one of the world’s heritage sites. Now retired and living on the edge of Moreton Bay Marine Park, Colin is raising awareness to protect the natural wonders of the natural world.
Colin is passionate about conserving the environment for future generations. He identifies that there is a key balance to maintain in the environment so we can continue to live on this planet. “Our children’s children will be reading books about “once upon a time” there were pelicans on the beaches.”
Colin started up ESRAG-Moreton Bay to undertake conservation and awareness missions. ESRAG stands for Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group and is the seventh area of focus that Rotary has set up. In 2021, ESRAG-Moreton Bay hosted an event on World Mangrove Day to bring attention to the public about the importance of mangroves.
