Ocean Innovators had the great privileged to be featured at the celebration of the IET 150 years anniversary of The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET).
IET 150 Years anniversary
The 150 years celebration celebrates engineering and technology with the mission to recognise individuals or group of people who are making a difference to our world. From helping local communities, fighting global challenges to benefiting society anywhere in the world. The action can be directly or indirectly associated with engineering or technology.

Ocean Innovators is part of the #DifferenceMakers. We empower inventors, leaders, thinkers, makers, creators, and doers that have a positive impact on our oceans.
Vic Grosjean, Founder of Ocean Innovators is a Mechatronics engineer. He is using his skills to integrate technology to help monitor the environment. Which action subsequently, reduces the impact of pollution on our oceans. The Institute of Engineering and Technology invited Vic to present Ocean Innovators and describe his job as part of the 150 years celebration.
What is Ocean Innovators?
The brand “Ocean Innovators” was launched in 2018. The same year, Vic won the Rotary-UN Young Innovator Award for developing a cutting-edge framework helping oceans by combining the power of technology with the power of people. It monitors and assists with the removal of pollution from waterways! This environmental project helped to shape the core objective of Ocean Innovators.
Affiliated to the French Not-For-Profit, Atlantis Exploration launched in 2014, Ocean Innovators aims to connect and empower social and technological innovators around the world acting to support ocean-related United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We want to help answer critical questions. How do we maintain life below water? By what means can we provide clean water for world population? How to adopt responsible consumption and production in an environment increasingly impacted by humans? And so many more…
Our mission to the community involves:
- Promoting the work of social and technological innovators implementing new solutions for the future of our Oceans
- Linking each innovation to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- Educating the community about existing solutions available to protect our oceans
- Supporting collaborative initiatives across innovators
- Encouraging the young generation to innovate and design the solutions of tomorrow
A Decade of Action: 10 Year to the 2030 Goals
United Nations Member States have adoped the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015. It is a universal call to action to ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. They address the global challenges we face, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice.
Ocean Innovators supports the SDGs by showcasing amazing solutions touching all 17 SDGs that have a positive impact on our oceans. The show is really designed to empower technologists and social innovators to accelerate the shift toward Ocean Protection. The input of innovators highlights the critical gaps and opportunities to accelerate action and transformative pathways for realising the Decade of Action to preserve our Oceans. The ultimate goal is to help innovators work together and implement new innovative solutions. This, to achieving better outcomes for future generations.
What is next for Ocean Innovators?
The platform was officially launched for World Ocean Day on June 8th, 2020, celebrating 10 years to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. So far, we promote one innovator in a weekly interview, featuring their solution helping the ocean. But, we want to help more awesome individuals, groups, and organisations.
We’re aiming to make it a bi-weekly format with at least two realises of great solutions per week. There are so many great innovations out there, of course, we want to showcase as many as possible. We have so many great ideas to help and support not only individuals but also, groups, or organisations taking actions for our oceans.
Ultimately, we want to gather all the incredible social and technological ideas created around the world to save oceans. And, with this help achieve the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Want to help us grow?
Ocean Innovators is now a 100% volunteer-run project. That is to say, we exist because of our amazing team of volunteers. Few hours per week, few hours per month, there is a lot of exciting things to get involved in. Do you have skills in video editing, communication, social media, law? Or, do you have a love for our oceans and want to take action? Now is the time! Drop us a line in the volunteer form HERE.
