Dr.
Dr Vikash Tatayah is the Conservation Director and Assistant Treasurer of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF). He has trained in agriculture and has been active in conservation for over 23 years. He manages conservation programmes for Mauritius, Rodrigues, and other outer islands, allowing the recovery of several species in danger of extinction.
He is actively involved in fundraising projects, awareness campaigns, and public relations initiatives for the foundation and is also a link to the Government of Mauritius for matters regarding national conservation and environmental consultation, the latest being the Wakashio oil spill. He also represents MWF with key organisations such as BirdLife, African Bird Club, Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund, Botanical Gardens Conservation International, among others.
Dr. Tatayah has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and is a co-author of several books and chapters. He has won or accepted several prizes locally and internationally, such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Species Survival Commission Chair’s Citation of Excellence 2019, as Co-chair of Mascarene Islands Plant Specialist Group.
Dr Vikash Tatayah is the co-chair of the IUCN Mascarene Islands Plant Specialist Group and a member of several other specialist groups.
He said “Wakashio will not put us down”, as he shares a message of resilience after the oil spill crisis.
